Q. I am just getting started with Progression. How do I log in?

A. First you have to select a database you wish to open. Use the 'Browse' button to select a database. The user name is 'Administrator' and the default password is 'Progression' (these _are_ case sensitive). Enter these into the appropriate boxes and click the 'OK' button.

Q. Does Progression work on a network?

A. Yes, Progression is networkable. Currently, for the Windows version we recommend networking on a Local Area Network (LAN). Progression Toolbox for the Web is capable of running over a modem.

Q. How do I install Progression to a network?

A. The following steps are necessary. (this applies to the Windows version)
  1. Create a directory on your server where you wish to install Progression.
  2. Run Progression's setup program.
  3. During the installation process, the setup program will ask you where you wish to install Progression. The default installation path is usually "C:\Program Files\Abante\Progression Toolbox". Change this path to the path of the shared network folder you just created.
  4. Finish the installation.
  5. Repeat the above process for all of your client machines.
At this point the Progression program files and default databases are installed to the network where all of your clients can access them.

Q. Do I need to install Progression on all of my client machines?

A. The answer is technically no, but it really depends on how your machines are configured. If you have installed a lot of current software, chances are that your machines will already have the necessary dll's to run correctly. If you are unsure, try running Progression. If it crashes when it starts up you'll need to run the setup program.

Q. How do I create databases on Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 for use with Progression?

A. Take the following steps:
  1. Start the Enterprise Manager
  2. Create a new database. Give it a size of 50 megabytes.
  3. Start ISQLW, connect to the database you created, and run the dbcreate.sql script. This script can be found on your installation CD. You will need a password to extract this file from the zip file. This password should have been provided with your license information.
More complete directions can be found in the Reference Manual.

Q. How do I set up ODBC DSNs (Data Source Names) for use with Progression?

A. The easiest way to do this is to set up one machine with the correct DSN information and then to use the Windows registry editor to export the information. The ODBC DSN information can be found at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI. This registry file can then be applied to your client machines using a boot or startup script. More complete directions can be found in the Reference Manual.
